| West of Abbotsbury lies the small village
of West Bexington. It has a farm at the centre with a little
modern development and bungalows from the 1930's leading down to the
sea. The 16th century manor house with Jacobean oak panelling and
flagstone floors has been converted to a hotel, just 500 yards from
Chesil beach, with an excellent reputation for cuisine and service.
An
failed attempt was made in the 1930's to develop West Bexington as a
resort. The chalets, bungalows and the car park seen today date from
that period.
