TODBERE, a parish in the hundred of REDLANE, Sturminster division of the county of DORSET, 4½ miles (S.W. by W.) from Shaftesbury, containing 127 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, united, in 1746, to that of Stower-Provost, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £5. 19. 4. The church was considered a chapel to Gillingham till 1434, when it was made parochial: the inhabitants, by ancient custom, bury at Stour. Volume 4, page 316 |
