CHETTLE, a parish in the hundred of MONCKTON up WIMBORNE, Shaston (East) division of the county of DORSET, 7 miles (N.E.) from Blandford-Forum, containing 132 inhabitants.

The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £8. 2. 9., and in the patronage of the Lord of the Manor. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a small bequest for teaching poor children.
