CHARMINSTER, a parish in the hundred of GEORGE, Dorchester division of the county of DORSET, 2 miles (N.W. by N.) from Dorchester, containing 556 inhabitants.

The living is a perpetual curacy with Stratton, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean of Salisbury, endowed with £400 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant. J. Trenchard, Esq. was patron in 1813. The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
