Introduction Locations People Back

WITHERSTONE, a parish in the hundred of EGGERTON, Bridport division of the county of DORSET, 5 miles (E.N.E.) from Bridport. The population is returned with the parish of Poorstock.

The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at 2. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Earl of Dorchester.

This ancient parish is now almost depopulated and reduced to one farm-house, the occupier of which pays church and poor rates to Poorstock, the parish church having been suffered to go to decay soon after the Reformation.
