WITHERSTONE, a parish in the hundred of EGGERTON, Bridport division of the county of DORSET, 5 miles (E.N.E.) from Bridport. The population is returned with the parish of Poorstock. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £2. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Earl of Dorchester. This ancient parish is now almost depopulated and reduced to one farm-house, the occupier of which pays church and poor rates to Poorstock, the parish church having been suffered to go to decay soon after the Reformation.
