WINFORD-EAGLE, a parish in the hundred of TOLLERFORD, Dorchester division of the county of DORSET, 8½ miles (W.N.W.) from Dorchester, containing 152 inhabitants.

The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Toller-Fratrum, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence.

On Fernham down are several barrows, in one of which seventeen urns, containing bones and ashes, have been discovered.

Dr. Thomas Sydenham, an eminent physician, was born here, in 1624; he died in 1689.
