STOCKLAND, a parish forming a detached portion of the hundred of WHITCHURCH-CANONICORUM, Bridport division of the county of DORSET, though locally in the county of Devon, 6 miles (N.E. by E.) from Honiton, containing 1147 inhabitants.

The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at 15. 13. 11., and in the patronage of the Freeholders and Inhabitants. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is a large ancient structure. The parochial school is well supported by annual donations.
