PENTRIDGE, a parish in that part of the hundred of CRANBORNE which is in the Shaston (East) division of the county of DORSET, 3 miles (N.W. by N.) from Cranborne, containing 272 inhabitants.

The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at 6. 15. 10., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Rumbold. On Penbury hill, which commands an extensive prospect, there was formerly a beacon.
