PENTRIDGE, a parish in that part of the hundred of CRANBORNE which is in the Shaston (East) division of the county of DORSET, 3½ miles (N.W. by N.) from Cranborne, containing 272 inhabitants.

The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £6. 15. 10., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Rumbold. On Penbury hill, which commands an extensive prospect, there was formerly a beacon.
