HOOKE, a parish in the hundred of EGGERTON, Bridport division of the county of DORSET, 4 miles (E. by S.) from Beaminster, containing 234 inhabitants.

The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at 9. 18. 10., and in the patronage of the Dowager Countess of Sandwich and the Marquis of Cleveland. The church is dedicated to St. Giles.
