CHARMINSTER, a parish in the hundred of GEORGE, Dorchester division of the county of DORSET, 2 miles (N.W. by N.) from Dorchester, containing 556 inhabitants.

The living is a perpetual curacy with Stratton, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean of Salisbury, endowed with 400 royal bounty, and 200 parliamentary grant. J. Trenchard, Esq. was patron in 1813. The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
