BROWNSHALL, or BROWNSEL-LANE, a hamlet in the parish of BISHOP'S CAUNDLE, hundred of SHERBOURNE, Sherbourne division of the county of DORSET. The population is returned with the parish.

This hamlet is of great antiquity, and was formerly of greater importance, as is evinced by its having given name to the hundred of Brownshall.
