I have traced his Great-Great Grandfather to a John Thorne born around 1625 but there is more than one of them. Is anyone else searching for Thornes and could provide the brithdate for the John Thorne that married Jane Foddell in 1668 (and whether he originated from Piddlehinton or Lydlinch)? cheers...Adam

David Thorne said he was born in Buckland Newton at around 1800 (1841 census) he married Harriet Saunders in 1824.They had a son (James) before Harriet died and David re-married. James, with second wife (Mary Ann Hillier)on the Buckland tything (1861 census). Also living there was Agnes Martin a widow .Was this Agnes Thorne (from Samuel and Elizabeth Thorne born 1791 in Buckland Newton)and if so was she the sister of David Thorne. I believe this could be a very good possibility for the recordings for the entries for 1800 was done by memory, I think he may have been over looked.I need some reassurance.

Although Richard died in Cheselbourne he is known to have spent most of his life in West Dorset. There is some suggestion that his move to Cheselbourne was somehow connected with the common local practice of smuggling.

I am looking for any information on the Tulk surname. It seems that my GGGG grandfather and his wife left the UK from Poole around 1800. (unconfirmed)

Here is a excerpt from a family history that one of my relatives wrote:

"At the time that Thomas Tulk came to Newfoundland the firm of Sleat & Reid, of Christchurch, Hampshire, South England, had established a mercantile operation at Greenspond, and by 1805 had taken over the Lester Enterprises, and were very active in bringing young men from the Wessex area to Bonivista Bay. It seems very probable that Thomas Tulk would have been one of there recruits and came to Pinchard Island around 1909."

If there are any leads that you might pass on to me I would certianly appreciate it.

Looking for birthplace of Charles Tulk who it is believed came from England in early 1800's to work in the fishery. He married a Mary Kirby of Burin newfoundland. Church records wer destroyed in a fire and little records are available on Charles and Mary. Am hoping he may have had siblings who remained in England and that descendents of them may have information in old family bible or come across entry in merchant records whose companies hired individuals to come to Newfoundland to work in the fishery. One entry indicates he was a planter in the fishery and it is known from some written and oral tradition that they had children, Charles, John, Samuel, William, Joseph, and daughetrs Elizabeth and Marrianne.
