Judith Taylor We are interested in finding out more about the Kenway family of Bridport. James Kenway (married to Jane) was imprisoned at Exeter in 1660 for his religious beliefs. He had three children, William, Joseph and Mary. They were all members of the Society of Friends and were imprisoned or had their property confiscated. I am descended I believe from a Peter Kenway who we think is the son of William or Joseph. His son James (1742-1833) married an Ann Seymour and his grandson James (1770-1834) married a Deborah Balston in 1796. Their sons William and Henry married Rachel and Elizabeth Heath (who might be sisters). They had a dau born in Jan 1883 in England and soon after they came to the US via Canada where a son was born in Oct 1884. He came to Rochester,NY in 1886 where he and his family set up residence. James and Ellen had four additional children; Frank b.1888, James b.1890, Abi Louisa b.1893 and Walter James b.1896 who is the father of my husband, Kenneth James. Phoebe Louise, sister of James, marr 18 Nov 1881 to Charles Cull COLLINS at Christchurch, Southampton and was widowed in 1899. Phoebe and Charles had five children; Charles, Mabel, Walter, Alice and Nellie. Phoebe remained in England but two of her children, Walter and Alice did come to the US.
