Emma was born also around 1848 in Oxfordshire daughter of Ann White and Jerimah Simmonds. Henry and Emma came to Australia after their marriage having children here from 1870. Does anyone have any information on my ggrandparents? Researcher: Dave Ridout Have traced Ridout to Milton Abbas and Sturminster Newton. RobertFoot(e) fathers Charles Ridout by Mary Ridout. She eventually marries William Hall. All circa 1820. Trying to locate marriage of John Ridout from Sturminster Newton and Ann ? they have child John Ridout 1767 in Sturminster Newton but where is Ann from and where did they marry. HallettResearcher: Judy Ramsey I am researching this Netherbury family and trying to prove an illegitimate birth - any information would be welcome: According to the early census records my great grandmother Elizabeth HALLETT, born 1859, was the youngest daughter of George Hallett and Anna HITCHCOCK (Hannah HISCOCKS). George Hallett and Anna Hitchcock had various children, with Sarah being born about 1840. At the time Elizabeth was born (25 Sept 1859) Sarah was 19, and her mother Anna was 40. Although Anna was capable biologically of being the mother of Elizabeth, Elizabeth's daughter Florence (my grand mother) was told by her mother that she was the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Hallett and John SWAFFIELD from Bridport, a cousin of Florence's heard the story from her mother, and the 1891 census has Anna, widowed, with her grand daughter, Elizabeth. If the female children of the family were told of an illegitimate birth it is very likely to be true - but how to prove it is another matter. I haven't seen Elizabeth's birth certificate yet - if she was claimed as being Anna's daughter on the early census records, instead of the illiegimate child of Sarah, would this be on the birth certificate, or did they tell the truth on these (more official) documents. Any help would be most welcome. Researcher:Geraldine
Gasparelli TRAVERS - Netherbury, Dorset 1700 - 1930 Researcher: K. M. Lobo Seeking Moses WELCH, who listed his birth date as 2 Jan 1812. The only indication of a birthplace is the 1841 census of Dorset which indicates he was born in Dorset. He emigrated to Nebraska right before the 1851 census was taken which would have given his birthplace. He married Harriett RAWLINS in Whitchurch Canonicorum near Pilsdon. I have not been able to locate a birth entry for Moses WELCH in the Pilsdon Bishop's Transcripts or in any of the villiages in the immediate area. My desire is to fine an entry to verify his birth somewhere in Dorset. Moses Welch settled in Colfax county, Nebraska, where he died in 1890. I believe he is connected to Hood & Co (bag & sailcloth makers) of Bridport. Researcher: John Alexander Hood John HOOD was a sailcloth manufacturer in Bridport who died in 1803. His wife was Susannah PALMER. I am looking for any more information about John. In particular I am looking for a birth or baptism. His grand son Henry made a written statement in 1895 that John was the brother of Lord Samuel Hood and Lord Alexander (Bridport) Hood. If that were to be correct, John would be the son of Rev. Samuel Hood and Mary Hoskyns of both Somerset and Dorset at various times. I do believe that this Rev. Samuel was resident in Beaminster for some time.
